چکیده

We prove the convergence of an adaptive linear finite element method for computing eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of second order symmetric elliptic partial differential operators. The weak form is assumed to yield a bilinear form which is bounded and coercive in H. Each step of the adaptive procedure refines elements in which a standard a posteriori error estimator is large and also refines elements in which the computed eigenfunction has high oscillation. The error analysis extends the theory of convergence of adaptive methods for linear elliptic source problems to elliptic eigenvalue problems, and in particular deals with various complications which arise essentially from the nonlinearity of the eigenvalue problem. Because of this nonlinearity, the convergence result holds under the assumption that the initial finite element mesh is sufficiently fine.

A Convergent Adaptive Method for Elliptic Eigenvalue Problems

We prove the convergence of an adaptive linear finite element method for computing eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of second order symmetric elliptic partial differential operators. The weak form is assumed to yield a bilinear form which is bounded and coercive in H1. Each step of the adaptive procedure refines elements in which a standard a posteriori error estimator is large and also refines e...

Adaptive Eigenvalue Computation for Elliptic Operators

This article is concerned with recent developments of adaptive wavelet solvers for elliptic eigenvalue problems. We describe the underlying abstract iteration scheme of the preconditioned perturbed iteration. We apply the iteration to a simple model problem in order to identify the main ideas which a numerical realization of the abstract scheme is based upon. This indicates how these concepts c...

An adaptive finite element method with asymptotic saturation for eigenvalue problems

This paper discusses adaptive finite element methods for the solution of elliptic eigenvalue problems associated with partial differential operators. An adaptive method based on nodalpatch refinement leads to an asymptotic error reduction property for the computed sequence of simple eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. This justifies the use of the proven saturation property for a class of reliable ...

COMMUNICATIONS IN NUMERICAL METHODS IN ENGINEERINGCommun

SUMMARY The computation of a few smallest eigenvalues of generalized algebraic eigenvalue problems is studied. The considered problems are obtained by discretizing self-adjoint second-order elliptic partial diierential eigenvalue problems in two-dimensional or three-dimensional domains. The standard Lanczos algorithm with the complete orthogonalization is used to compute some eigenvalues of the...

A Globally Convergent Numerical Method for Some Coefficient Inverse Problems with Resulting Second Order Elliptic Equations

A new globally convergent numerical method is developed for some multidimensional Coefficient Inverse Problems for hyperbolic and parabolic PDEs with applications in acoustics, electromagnetics and optical medical imaging. On each iterative step the Dirichlet boundary value problem for a second order elliptic equation is solved. The global convergence is rigorously proven and numerical experime...
